How to get help

Email us

Email is the only support channel for OlympIQ. Write to olympiqhelp@gmail.com and we will get back to you.

To help us sort it out faster, please include:

  • your OlympIQ username, or the email address on the account;
  • your device and iOS version, or your browser and its version if you use OlympIQ on the web;
  • what you expected to happen, and what happened instead;
  • a screenshot, if the problem is something you can see.

Frequently asked questions

What is OlympIQ?

OlympIQ is a free educational app that helps students practise for the AMC 10, AMC 12, and AIME mathematics competitions. You pick a difficulty and a category (algebra, geometry, number theory, or combinatorics) and work through past competition problems. Answers are graded on our servers, and your practice feeds experience points, category ranks, streaks, and badges.

There is also a social layer: you can add friends, search for other users, and appear on a global leaderboard. Any signed-in user can search for you and open your profile, and that profile view reads your whole saved progress record rather than a summary of it: your XP, category ranks, badges, streaks, which questions you attempted, which of them you answered correctly and which you answered incorrectly, which questions you bookmarked, which lesson videos you watched, the date you were last active, your mastery-set progress, and how many times you have reset sets. Treat that list as illustrative rather than exhaustive, and everything in your practice record as visible to other signed-in users (Privacy Policy, Section 7). OlympIQ is intended for users who are at least 13 years old.

How much does OlympIQ cost?

Nothing. OlympIQ is free, with no ads, no in-app purchases, and no paid tier. We do not sell your data.

This is not a temporary promotion. The competition problems are licensed for non-commercial use only, so OlympIQ has to stay free and non-commercial to keep using them.

Where do the competition problems come from?

They are past AMC and AIME competition problems, copyright the Mathematical Association of America (MAA), used under the Creative Commons Attribution-NonCommercial-ShareAlike 4.0 (CC BY-NC-SA 4.0) licence and credited to the MAA. The problems have been re-typeset and, in places, lightly edited or corrected by OlympIQ, so they may differ from the versions the MAA published. AMC, AMC 10, AMC 12 and AIME are trademarks of the Mathematical Association of America. OlympIQ is independent and is not affiliated with, sponsored by or endorsed by the MAA.

Some diagrams were created by OlympIQ in Asymptote, and some were supplied by the MAA and are used under the same licence. Where a question doesn't include a diagram, you can view the diagram on AoPS's website. Because the answer is on the website, you get 0 XP for answering that question correctly.

If you believe a problem is misattributed or a solution is wrong, email us with the question and we will correct it.

I cannot sign in, or I forgot my password

Tap Forgot password? on the sign-in screen and we will email you a reset link. A new account has to confirm its email address before it can use OlympIQ. You can sign in straight away, but until you tap the link in the verification email the app shows you the verification screen and nothing else, so check your inbox, and your spam folder, for that email. You can also delete the account from that screen if you would rather start over.

If neither email arrives, write to us from the address you signed up with and we will help.

How do I delete my account, and what happens to my data?

You can delete your account yourself, at any time, from inside the app: open the Profile tab, scroll to Danger zone, tap Delete account, enter your current password, and confirm. You do not need to contact us first. If you have not verified your email yet you will not see the Profile tab; use the Delete account button on the verification screen instead.

Deletion promptly removes your profile, your progress, your friends and friend requests, and your notifications from our active systems. Two things to know:

  • Your username stays reserved. It is no longer attached to a public profile, but nobody else can register it, so no one can take your handle and impersonate you.
  • The leaderboard is cached. It is rebuilt periodically, so your name can linger there for up to about an hour after deletion, until the next refresh.

Residual copies may persist for a limited period in our providers' backups before being overwritten in the ordinary course of their operations, and a few rate-limit counters keyed to your account identifier stay in our database, as the Privacy Policy describes. Each step of the deletion is attempted separately, so if something you expected to be removed is still there, email us and we will finish it. If you have filed a safety report, or been the subject of one, we may keep that report for as long as we need it to review it and enforce our Terms. The full detail is in the Privacy Policy.

How do I report a user or block someone?

Open the person's profile in the app and tap Report, choose a reason, and optionally add a short note. You can also block or remove users with the tools on their profile. Reports go only to us, never to the person you reported. You can file up to three reports a day, and you can report a given account once. If there is a further problem with an account you have already reported, email us instead.

If something is urgent, email olympiqhelp@gmail.com as well.

Do you collect my personal information?

What the app needs to work: your email address, your username, and your practice progress. To run and secure the service, Firebase also processes technical data on our behalf, including your IP address, device and app-installation identifiers, and basic device and operating-system information; Section 3 of the Privacy Policy lists everything we collect. Other signed-in users can open your profile, and doing so reads your whole saved progress record rather than a summary of it: your username, XP, ranks, badges, streaks, which questions you attempted, which of them you answered correctly and which you answered incorrectly, which questions you bookmarked, which lesson videos you watched, the date you were last active, your mastery-set progress, and how many times you have reset sets. Treat that list as illustrative rather than exhaustive (Privacy Policy, Section 7). We do not run ads, we do not sell your data, and we do not use third-party analytics, advertising, or crash-reporting services. On the web, one Google anti-abuse check (reCAPTCHA) runs when you sign in or sign up in this browser, when you ask for a password reset, and it may also run on a later visit while this browser still holds a saved OlympIQ sign-in, whether or not that sign-in is still valid. A browser that has never done any of those things loads no reCAPTCHA at all. If reCAPTCHA settings from an earlier version of the web app are still stored in this browser, they are cleared on the first visit that finds no saved OlympIQ sign-in, and the check may run once on that visit before they go; while a sign-in is saved they are kept, because clearing them would sign you out. The Privacy Policy describes the check in full. We ask for your date of birth once, at sign-up, to confirm you are at least 13, and we do not store it afterwards.

Everything we collect and why is set out in the Privacy Policy.

Something is broken, or I have an idea

Both are welcome at olympiqhelp@gmail.com. Bug reports from people actually studying for these competitions are the fastest way things get fixed.
